Solar Power at Home on the Range
On the south side of the clerestories on our roof, we have a 10 kilowatt
grid-tied photovoltaic system. We are using 60 panels and 2 Sunny Boy
Inverters. In addition, we have solar hot water heaters on the roof. This
generates approximately 37% of the electricity and all of the hot water
used in our building. In the summer the solar panels at times generate more
electricity than the building uses, in which case the power is sold back to the
grid in a net-metering agreement. This lowers energy bills and ensures for
the most efficient use of our solar resource.
